“I have great news to give today: Erasmus will be in all vocational schools and training centres in Europe. How does it sound? Brave? Absurd? To me it sounds like the future and I’ll share with you why and how I believe that’s going to happen sooner than we imagine.”
What is iMove? It is a project started in 2014 that officially gave birth to a network on the 17th and the 18th of November 2016. The iMove network is formed by public and private organisations interested in making the Erasmus culture not only an experience accessible to everyone, but also an integral part of everybody’s learning path. Today, iMove links together organisations from different European countries which work energetically in the field of vocational training mobility.
Just few days left until you can become a member of iMove Network. The project was designed to make a model out of the positive mobility experiences organised through a systemic approach: a public or private centralised service working on a territory, aiming to support mobility, and equipped to meet the needs of many training centres. In 2014, these services, based on the partnership of different actors involved in planning and realising mobility experiences, were defined as mobility consortia by the Erasmus+ programme.
iMove has always pursued an ambitious aim: linking together many mobility consortia in order to create a ‘consortium of consortia’. Different organisations working together can achieve the clear goal defined by the European Strategy ET2020: within 2020, the rate of students from vocational training courses who have undertaken a mobility experience during their study must reach 6%.
In 2010, the European average rate was 0,7% only, but we hope that our dream of making Erasmus mobility accessible to everyone will soon turn into reality.

Semper Avanti is sending, almost monthly, groups of young polish students of the Lower Silesia Region abroad for short-term internship experiences.
This action is the pivot of the “Youth and Labour market” project, one of the three pillars of Semper Avanti work, together with “Youth and Democracy” and “Youth and Tolerance” projects. The aim of this is to prepare students at their last year of school to the challenge of finding their first jobs and obtaining work experience.
In this framework the partnership with other organizations and political institutions (such as ‘EuPQua ECVET – European Partnership for Quality and Implementation of the European Credit System in VET’ or ‘IMOVE – Innovation for Mobility in VET: Public and Private Partnerships for sustainable mobility’) is increasing the opportunities of international exchanges.
Especially remarkable is the collaboration with the Emilia Romagna region in Italy. Indeed Semper Avanti, in the last months, sent different groups of young people in the most important cities of the area, such as Bologna and Parma. The project is not limited only to the action of “sending” people but it involves also other activities. Between them it is crucial the pre-departure preparation which provides the essential tools that students will need. Usually the preparation includes around ten meetings of six hours each or generally a total of sixty hours. Here the main activity is English because every intern need to be able to communicate abroad using an international language focusing on the technical vocabulary interns will need on the working place. The second part of pre-departure meetings concerns the cultural preparation in order to make the cultural shock softer.
Cultural shock is something to don’t underestimate. Indeed for young students that are sometimes at their first experience abroad it is not easy to deal suddenly with the distance from home and with a new environment with different customs and traditions with unknown people. For this reason a cultural presentation of the hosting country is necessary, describing the habits of the area, the rules and most of all the beauties to discover and visit, the food to taste and the situations to enjoy. Also a basic introduction to local language is necessary in order to let the students be able to ask information and get what they need. Last but not the list, is to create before the departure a friendly and cooperative environment between participants.
This is not only a working experience but it influences all the aspects of daily life creating new friendships, new bounds with places, opening minds and giving analytical and practical tools that will be useful in every situation of the future life.
5 mobility consortiums, 4 Italian regions and 700 Erasmus+ grants for VET learners.
This is the achievement of two months of hard work done by the staff of Uniser in cooperation with its consortia’s partners. Two very intense months of analyzing, drafting and organizing the best mobility experiences we could dream for “our” students.
Two of the consortia are focused on Emilia-Romagna’s VET system. The first will involve 130 students from 12 Technical High Schools. The second one will involve 250 students from 50 Vocational Centres spread all around the region and it will be coordinated by A.E.C.A. (Associazione Emiliano-Romagnola centri Autonomi).
The third project will involve the CNOS-FAP regional federation in Lombardia, with 5 training centres. CNOS (Centro Nazionale opere Salesiane) is an organization promoting vocational education and training through the establishment of training centres, very famous in Italy for the high quality of the teachings methods.
UmbriaNet, based in Umbria region, the very heart of Italy. Thanks to our partner Itaca, a consortium of cooperatives, 12 Technicals and Vocational High School have the chance to send some of their students to live a challenging working experience in another European country.
Last but not least Love4Tourism, a project involving 100 students from Campania Technical Schools in the tourism sector, leaded by IGS social enterprise. Target participants of the project are young people studying marketing and tourism, a costantly growing sector in Campania. The project proposal has been considered so relevant by the Italian National Agency Isfol that it had an evaluation of 100/100, scoring the highest result in the KA1 VET Italian ranking 2016.
Beginning as an Lifelong Learning Programme funded project in January 2014, iMove today is an umbrella organisation open to members involved in learning mobility from all over Europe
It brings together public and private stakeholders willing to implement local Mobility Consortia to make learning mobility an opportunity provided by all vocational schools and training centres of the area.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Terrassa presented Imove network at “Connecting Chambers”, the European Chambers annual event in Brussels. Imove video was shown and Imove Mobility Multi-Stakeholders Platform concept was introduced raising great interest among the attendees, as being a particular kind of mobility consortium involving public and private stakeholders with a great local impact. Specially remarkable were the interest of Italian Chambers working already in Mobility projects, to attend Imove final conference to be held next 17th-18th November in Bologna, Italy. Building a mobility consortium is not easy, so the methods and infrastructure built by means of Imove were welcomed as a facilitator that will able to accelerate the process. Also German and Spanish Chambers showed interest in taking part in Imove network activities as many of them are already involved in mobility projects.
It is also important to comment that many Chambers belonging to the European Enterprise Network offered to widespread Imove network results and final conference among its members. Being EEN members’ business support organizations, their enrollment in Imove network, playing the role as the private part in Mobility Multi-Stakeholders Platform mobility consortia, could be key for recruiting more companies taking part in mobility traineeships.
More than 70 European Chambers representatives were present at the “Connecting Chambers” the European event for cooperation.
Created as an idea to develop innovative solution to enhance learning mobility all around Europe, Imove’s project development stage is coming to an end. During these three years, all members show utmost effort to create a solution to answer the demands of all parties in a learning mobility. Members of a learning mobility usually consist in young people, schools, companies and associations. Since all parties have different demands due to their nature, a need was growing to answer them all hence Imove was born.
iMove is an umbrella organisation bringing together stakeholders involved in the co-ordination of transnational learning mobility of students and staff vocational education (VET). It is a network promoting sustainable models to make learning mobility an opportunity provided by all vocational schools and training centres in Europe.
iMove’s legal status is an Association of Organisations founded under the Italian law. All iMove members must be organisations with a recognised legal status. The network is based in Bologna, where iMove originally started as a Leonardo project leaded by Emilia-Romagna Regional Government.
iMove supports the setting up of ‘mobility consortia’ to allow all VET providers in a local, regional or sectoral context to offer to their learners and staff mobility opportunities. iMove members are private and public organizations which have developed or wish to develop a mobility consortium within a specific context (eg. local, regional or sectoral level).
Thanks to iMove for VET schools in the local and regional communities involved it will become a usual practice the possibility to offer to interested students the opportunity of a training experience in Europe as part of their qualification. Such experience, particularly for youngsters, has a very strong impact on their personal development, flexibility and to open their mind towards the European labour market.
Created as an innovative solution to Europe wide vocational education, Imove consist in various member from EU member states. As one of them, Arbeit und Leben, created with the motto “Qualification without borders”. Their aim is encouraging people to expand their knowledge and to move off the beaten track of thinking. And they did quite a successful job over the years. Recently they had another achievement. Let’s read their success story!
The 2016 Erasmus+ application of iMove partner Arbeit und Leben Hamburg has been successful! 720 Erasmus+ grants will be available over the next two years.
350 of the grants are for apprentices and vocational students of the iMove consortium in Hamburg. 120 are for the consortium’s vocational education (VET) staff and the remaining 250 grants are for individual placements of apprentices from the whole of Germany.
We are looking forward to continue sending young people and experts to our iMove partners all over Europe, to learn, to experience top quality work placements and get to know the working environment in other European countries.
